I love shooting pictures for the right reasons, particularly when they turn out well.
The Land Trust for Tennessee and the University of the South were sucessfully raising money to purchase and preserve a 3,000 acre track of land in South East Tennessee.
Now, I live in Sewanee, Tennessee. It is the same town I was born in, and I grew up hiking on this particular track of land. One of my dear friends owns a farm in the bottom of Lost Cove, it is a place close to my heart. It is wonderful to do anything to help set that land aside. Development on the southern cumberland plateau is going on at a dizzying pace, so keeping almost 3,000 acres natural is a huge accomplishment.
My small -and I emphasize small- part in the campaign was shooting aerial photos of the cove. I picked a morning in late summer after a storm front had moved through so the air would be clear and I hoped there would be mist in the valley.
The mist was there. Out of 700 frames, there are about 4 that work well. What a beautiful morning.

Fantastic shot. I knew it was yours as soon as I got my magazine, just like you always know a Galen Rowell or an Adams.

Richard,
If enough people ask for it I will. I'm kind of swamped right now check back in a few days.

This is lovely as wallpaper. Would you consider doing the same for Sewanee in the Mist -- it is very beautiful?
