There are times as a photographer when you just know that you have the shot. I had been covering a cave expedition to New Britain for months. Most of my time was spent shooting underground in the caves but I also wanted to show what life was like on the surface.
One morning in camp -after a long night underground- I got my photo of my friend Dave -Moose- Nixon waking up. He was yelling at me to put the camera down and start boiling water for coffee because no on would "EVER' want to see this.
My response was, "Moose I guarantee you that National Geographic will publish this picture. People will believe the caves but NO ONE will believe that you live like this!"
I was right, we published the picture and no one believes the squalor.
