shot with my canon G10
Every photographer needs a good point and shoot. Why? Why would you choose to carry a pocket camera when you already own a 20 or 25 megapixel Canon/Nikon/Sony? Why compromise the quality?
Well one of the obvious reasons is that those mega cameras are just that, mega. It is a lot to carry a 5D Mark II
Magnum photographer Christopher Anderson shot much of his Caracas work (talks about it here) with a Contax T3 point and shoot. I know at least one photograpehr who got images from the Burma Cyclone by posing as a tourist with her Canon G9 and another of my colleges is contemplating shooting Tibet with his G10
Lets face it, when you have a PHD (push here dummy) in your hand you are less intimidating than with a bigger slr. Point and shoots won't replace your slr, but sometimes they are just the right tool.
