The Coming Year

This picture from Rapa Nui really sums up the way I feel about the coming year. Huge changes are brewing in the publishing world. The convergence of new technology and easy delivery seems to be coming to a head. Old business models are falling apart. We are poised on the breaking wave, what is 2010 going to look like?

After the first of the year we'll look at that future in a series of posts. Where is publishing going? Where is multimedia going? What are things going to be like after the wave breaks? What challenges and opportunities are ahead?

I can't wait to find out.

stuck

I bet that right now someone is reading this stuck in an airport. You are stuck now because some jackass tried to blow up a Detroit bound flight last week. Security is tighter, traffic is heavy, weather is bad, a perfect storm of travel delays. 

It sucks, and I feel for you. While it might not help, maybe this photo can put things into perspective. This is the main road through Kajo Keji, South Sudan, the truck stuck on the single lane bridge belongs to the company in charge of maintaining the roads. Double Stuck.

Remember things could always be worse.

little bag is a rising star

  I am never certain that anyone reads my reviews, but my comments about the Courierware bag (comments here) have caught on. It is the newest rising star in the arcane world of professional photography obsessions.  Ira ordered one last week, and now DAH has ordered one. I got a phone call from Dave yesterday wondering why I hadn't told him about the bag first. The search for the perfect bag continues...

Great storytelling on NPR

 

Jakci Lyden has a wonderfully told story about prison and redemption (here). I know that sounds almost like a country/western song, but it really is storytelling at its best.

NPR and National Geographic have been talking about doing stories together but in this case, I don't think there is much that pictures could add to the vivid portrait Lyden paints. 

As with all great stories, she starts by picking the right tale to tell.
