preparing Paris presentation, no files... dropbox to the rescue

I've agreed to do a presentation for NGM's Parisian advertisers this coming week. So here I am sitting in Paris and I can't find all the image files I need. It is the weekend, there is no one in my office back in Tennessee, no one at the office in Washington. What do I do?

Well, I logged onto my desktop machine in TN using screen sharing, found the right images, resized them remotely and then saved them into a Dropbox folder. They appear almost instantly on my laptop drive in Paris. Now I can put them into the keynote address just as easily as if I was still in my office.

If you aren't using Dropbox, you should give it a try.

Leica X1, new camera in Paris

I bought a new camera on Thursday. A Leica x1. I'd like to say that I know better than to do this, buy a camera in the middle of an assignment and immediately start using it. I'm shooting in some clubs and needed a camera that is more discrete than my Canon 5D MK II. It is small -about the size of an M6- but has a big cmso sensor, 24mm lens (36mm equivalent) manual focus, auto focus, manual settings, iso to 3200.

I've been swamped in Paris, literally. I've been here for 5 weeks and am into the heart of the story. So much of the first few weeks is spent figuring things out, where to go, who to talk to, what's the story. These middle weeks are where I get the bulk of the work done. It goes by as a blur, no sleep, too much work, it is the part I hate, and love. It always goes by too fast...

Burn to start paying for content!

DAH at Burn announced that they will start paying for content (here). Admittedly it is only $500 per essay, but that is $500 more than the New York Times pays.

The FFF Award is a 20,000 euro prize for concerned photography. Inspired by Cornel Cappa's 1972 quote
