Any visual person moving into video immediately comes up against the sound wall. It is the wall that you hit when you realize that just interesting moving images don't carry a film. You need sound, you need music badly. But as someone dedicated to producing images you are the last person in the world capable of creating the sound you need.
Anyone who has looked into licensing music that you hear on the radio knows that it is prohibitively expensive. Do we need to talk about why you don't just take the music and hope no one notices? Good, I didn't think so.
So what do you do? Vimeo has a music store that has very economical licenses and music that is good enough.
Music Bed has launched a site aimed at the wedding and independent film market. Good music, lots of it and it is well indexed Licenses start at $50.
There is also Mobygratis. Music from Moby that you can license for an independent production for free. It can take some time to get the download from them so plan accordingly.
Does anyone know of other sources?
Stephen Alvarez

Recently I had Patrick Moreau of Stillmotion on my podcast and he talked about their new film music service http://withetiquette.com. They have some great tracks and a wide variety of licensing arrangements.
