I've been playing with new cameras lately. Specifically the new Sony 7s. I am shocked at the camera's low light performance. The image above what shot at night, not dusk, not twilight. ISO 40,000 1/60 sec at f 3.2
Here is a 100% enlargement.
Yes there is a lot of noise, but I don't mind it, reminiscent of film grain. 40,000 is nowhere near the top, the camera goes ot ISO 409,600. It also outputs 4k video to an external recorder. Impressive, but to accomplish this Sony has put a 12.2 mega-pixel sensor inside. My phone produces considerably bigger files so the 7s is a specialty camera and at $2500 an expensive one at that.
But producing usable images at iso 40,000 and above will open up new photographic worlds.
